Evidence For Christianity

Documenting The Overwhelming Evidence For The Christian Faith

Would A 4 Year Old Boy Lie About Meeting Jesus?

Would a 4 year old boy lie about seeing God and meeting Jesus Christ?  That is the question that you are going to have to ask yourself if you want to dismiss this next story.  When Colton Burpo was 4 years old, he briefly died during emergency surgery.  What he experienced next is shaking the beliefs of people around the globe.

Colton says that after he died he left his body.  He was able to go into other areas of the hospital and see what his parents were doing.  His parents confirmed that after Colton came back he was able to accurately described what they were doing at the time.

After that, Colton was taken to heaven.  He met his great-grandfather, who had died long before Colton was ever born. After Colton returned he was able to recognize youthful pictures of his great-grandfather from a photo album.

In addition, Colton says that he met the little girl that his mother had once miscarried.  His mother had never told Colton about that, so that they were absolutely amazed that he knew about her.  Colton describes this conversation with this little girl in heaven in the video below.

But Colton did not just meet family members during his trip to heaven.

Colton claims that he actually saw God the Father.

Colton claims that he actually met Jesus.

Colton claims that he actually met John the Baptist.

So is all of this true?

Watch the video and decide for yourself.  The video posted below is a Fox News interview with Colton and his father. It is absolutely amazing....

The new book about Colton Burpo's visit to heaven is entitled Heaven is for Real: A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back.

The following is the description of this book from Amazon.com....
Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.

Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.

Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
But it is not just Colton that has had these kinds of experiences.

Many, many children who have had near-death experiences say that they have been to heaven and that they have met Jesus.

So are they all lying?

Are they all hallucinating?

Or is something else going on here?  Do these experiences represent strong evidence for Christianity?

For much more on this topic, we encourage you to check out our sister website: Life After Death.

Also, we wanted to ask you one more question today.

If you died tonight, do you know for sure that you would go to heaven?

Heaven is a very real place, and those who are in a right relationship with God will go there someday.

But none of us is perfect, right?

Exactly.

We have all sinned greatly.

There is only one way to get into a right relationship with God and that is through His Son.

The truth is that Jesus Christ (Yeshua in Hebrew) died on the cross to pay the penalty for all of our sins so that we could be brought into a right relationship with God.

If you will repent from your sins and confess Jesus as Lord, you will be saved and you will go to heaven when you die too. For much, much more about this, please see the following article that we posted on another one of our websites: What Does The Bible Say About Salvation?

I used to get excited when people would have an NDE that backed up Christianity. I mean, what a great way to prove that Jesus is real! Then I was looking through NDE research and found that all NDE contradict each other... even Christian ones. Apparently Jesus likes to tell people contradictory information, even to Christians.

The boy who saw this probably isn't lying. But as NDE research indicates, you see things that are already in your brain. This kid grew up in church, so of course he knew all the stories. Same with 23 minutes in Hell. This guy was a Christian already for so long. His story is so full of holes and contradictory information that I actually believe that guy IS lying. The boy, I do not.

We can't just ignore the research of NDE, if we are going to be honest. For instance, those who report seeing Jesus were those in the Christian (81%) category. The lowest percentage were those in the non-religious (0%) category. The atheist category was (50%). The non-Christian category was (13%). You can see full stats here at http://www.near-death.com/experiences/evidence06.html.

It really makes Christians look foolish to selectively highlight the NDE's that prove Christianity when thousands of others disprove it. We can't just pick and choose. We don't need NDE to confirm that Jesus is real. We already know he is, by faith. If we need NDE to prove it, than we are no longer living by faith. In fairness, you should probably post the stats on that page I sent and let people make up their own mind about NDE's.

No one is going to heaven anyway when they die. We will be living on earth in the New Jerusalem in physical bodies. Not some heavenly ethereal dwelling.

I do like some of your other posts though. The whole reason I believe is because of the resurrection evidence and pauls sudden transformation. If not for the evidence of those 2 things, I probably would not believe.

I believe the boy saw KING JESUS CHRIST the LORD of lords and KING of kings. I have been having similar visions whereby JESUS CHRIST beckons me from the sky, sometimes HE just appears so glorious and one can't look at HIS glorious face. Sometimes JESUS CHRIST looks so sorrowful. But all in all IN HIS PRESENCE THERE IS SO MUCH FULLNESS OF JOY. At other times JESUS smiles so sweetly HIS teeth are so well aligned as described in the Bible Songs of Solomon. The truth is JESUS CHRIST is no regarder of persons HE can appear to anyone just believe in HIM and get saved. The only way to eternal life is through JESUS CHRIST. There is no other name given among men via which we must be saved save THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, NAME ABOVE ALL OTHER names.

GOD ALMIGHTY bless u as u choose to be saved and believe in HIS ONLY SON.

If you actually read the book before posting the blog, you'd know that Colton Burpo said that Jesus had holes in his palms.

On the surface this doesn't sound odd, but if you understand how crucifixion works, then you'd realize that the Romans don't peg people up by their hands because they'd flop down like a sack of potatoes.

So... This easily is a hoax. Also, Jesus didn't have blue eyes, he was semitic, so they were brown.

In reponse to C. Herman: They did actually put nails through the palms and feet of Jesus. They also tied him to the cross to keep his body up on the cross. The nails driven through Him as was the lance in His side and the crown of thorns were merely to inflict more pain.

He did not die of blood loss but of suffocation. This is what happens when one is no longer to hold his body up. The lungs elongate and you suffocate.

Exactly how would you know the color of Jesus' eyes? :)

sounds like a scheme to make money!

c. hermann's correct, he had nails in his wrists, not palms!

theresa, prove to me they used rope.

It is true that many who study NDEs can argue that they are culturally subjective and difficult to rely upon. However, after reading hundreds of them, I do admit that the basic underlying messages and themes for them are the same.

There are some things that are more difficult to describe: Various Jews and Muslims have recently claimed to see Jesus, and some not from Near-Death Experiences only; a Jew said that she did not want to be used by any religion, but that she now somehow felt that Jesus was indeed part of the great scheme of things. And I read an anonymous NDE by someone who was raised an atheist seeing Jesus, and who turned to Christianity...

What I am trying to say is that I do believe most NDEs contain a kind of spiritual truth, maybe somewhat subjective, but truth nonetheless. Believe them or not, such is your choice alone.
